I specialize in counseling teenagers, and have extensive experience working with transgender and nonbinary teens. My aim is to instill a sense of hope and trust that things will be okay, that each individual can weather any storm, and that the storms are impermanent. I use whatever comes up in sessions and in the therapeutic relationship to help teens to better cope with feelings that arise in each moment.

My approach to sessions with teens is straightforward; I use humor to engage and connect. I work either solely with the teen, or some combination of teen and family therapy. Occasionally I will see a parent alone, or talk to them on the phone, in connection with teen therapy. Your teen will be aware of the content of these conversations.

My knowledge of adolescent issues and crises includes, but is not limited to:

  • Mood disorders, such as depression and anxiety

  • ADHD

  • LGBTQIA issues, especially transgender teens

  • Attachment disorders

  • Developmental or social skill delays

  • Oppositional or explosive behaviors

  • Substance abuse

  • Eating disorders

  • Self-harm behaviors

  • Suicide risk

Teens: My hope is that our sessions are like a conversation with your best friend. One where you leave the conversation feeling understood.
